Art Inspiration - How Do You Get It?

I've been asked this question several times.  Just yesterday, in fact, someone asked me, "What inspires you?". Lately, it's other artists' work.  I often look at art on line.  I particularly love Daily Paintworks.  This art movement gained momentum about five years ago.  Artists do small works and sell them for reasonable prices. I learn a lot about color, shape and composition from these talented folks.

In this painting, "MMM Cupcake", I was inspired by my granddaughter's 3rd birthday party!
It will be for sale in my Etsy shop in December.

I found a list of art inspired ideas on Empty Easel:
  • Your imagination
  • Nature
  • Everyday life
  • Fellow artists
  • Other artwork
  • Works of literature
  • What I like
  • Travel brochures, magazines and imagination
  • Something that has happened in your life
  • Politics and Current events
  • Personal belongings
  • The creative process
  • Music
  • Childhood memories
This is just a partial list, what inspires you?

  1. I get inspired by other jewelry makers sometimes. Lately I'll see something and think, "That would look good if I did XYZ instead!"

  3. Inspiration comes from so many things! I usually am inspired by an outfit that needs just the right accessory to make it fabulous!

  4. I love this post, simply because I'm inspired by the most random things. It could be the way a light shines on a building and next thing you know, I'll have a dress. Great topic!
